The Indian government recently introduced PAN 2.0 which aims to streamline taxpayer registration. In this new programme, the PAN details are stored in QR codes for enhanced security and verification. To get the new form of PAN made, citizens are required to visit NSDL or UTIITSL portal to get PAN 2.0 in their email. We’ve covered the full procedure on how to apply for PAN 2.0 card below.
Eligibility
PAN Card holders Currently: Eligible to have their PAN upgraded to PAN 2.0 automatically and need not apply again for the same.
New Applicants: Mandatory documents include valid identity and address proofs.
Require Document
Proof of Identity (PoI):
- Aadhaar Card
- Passport
- Voter ID
- Driving License
Proof of Address (PoA):
- Utility Bills (recent)
- Bank Statements (recent)
- Rent Agreement (if applicable)
Proof of Date of Birth (DoB):

How to apply for PAN 2.0 using NSDL Website
- Step 1: Go ahead and open the NSDL PAN portal website on a browser
- Step 2: Now fill in the necessary details in the form such as your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and date of birth and validate the CAPTCHA. Once done, hit ‘Submit‘
- Step 3: On the next screen, all your details existing with NSDL will appear. Now all you have to do is select the mode of receiving an OTP from options such as – phone number, email ID, or both
- Step 4: Now enter the received OTP and enter the CAPTCHA and go to the PAN card portal. Next, agree to the given terms and conditions
- Step 5: Once all that is done, go ahead and make the payment. The PAN card 2.0 is free of cost if you’ve received the physical card in the last 30 days, else the charges are Rs 8.26
- Step 6: Confirm the payment method such as debit card, credit card, net banking etc. and proceed to pay
- Step 7: After a successful payment, the PAN QR code should arrive in the given email ID or SMS shortly
How to apply for PAN 2.0 using UTIITSL website
- Step 1: Open the UTIITSL website on a browser
- Step 2: Once you’re in, enter your PAN number and fill in details such as date of birth and the CAPTCHA. Hit ‘Submit‘ to proceed
- Step 3: On the next screen, the email ID registered with your PAN will be displayed
- Step 4: Verify whether it’s the correct email ID and proceed with the process
- Step 5: Go ahead and make the payment. The PAN card 2.0 is free of cost if you’ve received the physical card in the last 30 days, else the charges are Rs 8.26
- Step 6: Confirm the payment method such as debit card, credit card, net banking etc. and proceed to pay
- Step 7: After a successful payment, the PAN QR code should arrive in the given email ID in the next few minutes
